All About Cranberry!

For the past 2 months I have been obsessed with cranberries. I have always loved cranberries and usually only ate them around the holidays (cranberry sauce anyone?), but my lovely husband showed me how easy it was to make homemade whole cranberry sauce. I couldn't believe it.. just water, sugar and cranberries!! I will soon be sad when the cranberry season is over. I think it's over now, but I have still found some cranberries in the grocery stores. Maybe I could use frozen berries in my sauce??

Anyhow, here is my small tribute to the cranberry.

Christmas Wish List

I am so feeling all these items right now. Even though I told my hubby not to get me anything (we are doing some heavy traveling up and down the East Coast), I know he is going to buy me something for Christmas. I hope he reads my blog...

Looks good enough to eat!

Still in love after a month of online "window" shopping.

---------------------------------------------------

(I know what I said about grown women shopping in the jr dept.) I might make this...

---------------------------------------------------------
I met this lady @ a craft show a few months ago. She was a doll and her mother is hilarious! I traded some items with her for some soap and I fell in love!! This soap doesn't leave my skin dry and flaky and surprisingly there's no "ring around my tub".. I love that!!

The Rain Don't Last

While listening to Pandora Radio this weekend, this song came on a few times. I gave it a "thumbs up" and now it is played as one of my favorites. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did...

Lyrics compliments of Lets Sing It

Mmmm... Mmm... oohhmmm...
Could it be the world's gone colder?
Maybe, I'm a losing soul
The more I try it just gets harder
And my pain is getting old
Somebody said that nothing lasts forever
Just the storm so I've been told
But it seems that when it rains it pours

And you know the rain won't last forever
And you know the storm won't always flow
But if the sun don't shine forever
You gotta let it go

Sometimes my burdens get so heavy
And it seems too hard to bear
Sometimes I feel so empty
And it feels like no one's there
Somebody said that nothing lasts forever
Just the storm so I've been told
But it seems that when it rains it pours

And you know the rain won't last forever
And you know the storm won't always flow
But if the sun don't shine forever
You gotta let it go

And you gotta let it go...
And you gotta let it go...
Mmmm... Mmm... oohhmmm...

Amy Butler and Area Rugs???

I just opened up my email to reveal my latest newsletter from Amy Butler Design... I love all thinks Amy Butler and wish I could afford one of her rugs... This one below is my favorite, but at a eye-popping $799 for a 5' by 7.6' rug, I find that hardly affordable for someone working with my budget. Oh well, another thing to add to my "when I win the powerball" wish list.

It's Ok to Quit

I got this in an email and thought I'd share. This is a speech written by motivational speaker Veraunda Jackson.

1. Quit arguing with people about the same old foolishness! Respect their position and keep it moving!

2. Quit telling people your secrets when you know they are not going to keep them! And if you keep telling them, then quit getting mad when they tell your secrets!

3. Quit trying to pull people on your journey who don't want to travel with you. Either they believe in you and value you...or they don't!

4. Quit complaining about things you can't and won't change!

5. Quit gossiping about other people! Minding our own business should be a full time job!

6. Quit blaming each other for things that in the big picture aren't going to matter three weeks from now! Talk solutions....and then implement them!

7. Quit eating things you know are not good for you! If you can't quit... eat smaller portions!

8. Quit buying things when we know we can't afford them! If you don't have self control, then quit going to the stores! Quit charging things, especially when you don't NEED them!

9. Quit staying in unhealthy relationships! It is not okay for people to verbally or physically abuse you! So quit lying to yourself! It is not okay to stay in the marriage for the children! Ask them and they will tell you that they really would prefer to see you happy and that the misery you and your spouse/partner are living with is affecting them!

10. Quit letting family members rope you into the drama! Start telling them you don't want to hear it! Quit spreading the drama! Quit calling other relatives and telling them about your cousin, uncle,or aunt! Go back to #5 minding your own business should be enough to keep you busy!

11. Quit trying to change people! IT DOESN'T WORK! Quit cussing people out when you know that they are just being the miserable and jealous people that they are!

12. Quit the job you hate! Start pursuing your passion. Find the job that fuels your passion BEFORE you quit!

13. Quit volunteering for things that you aren't getting any personal fulfillment from anymore! Quit volunteering for things and then failing to follow through with your commitment!

14. Quit listening to the naysayers! Quit watching the depressing news if you are going to live in the doom and gloom of it all!

15. Quit making excuses about why you are where you are or why you can't do what you want to do!

16. Quit waiting on others to give you the answers...and start finding the answers for yourself! If what you are doing isn't working for you... then quit it!

17. Quit settling and start making your dreams a reality! Quit being afraid and START LIVING YOUR LIFE! CREATE THE LIFE YOU WANT! If you want something different than what you have had in the past... you must quit doing what you have done before and DO something different! JUST QUIT IT ...... and START DOING something to create the experience you want!

Sausage & Bowties

Last night I posted a picture of one of my favorite dinner's to make, Sausage and Bowties. Everyone on my Facebook commented how good it looked and wanted the recipe. I've already substituted different meats like chicken and shrimp and it came out delicious. I still prefer the italian sausage best. If you don't eat pork you can use the turkey italian sausage which is just as good, even though my husband claims he can taste a difference...

Ingredients:
1 lb italian sausage
1 box (16 oz) bowties
2 sweet peppers ( i used 1 green and 1 red), sliced
(**you can use the frozen pepper stir-fry blend, but the veggies don't get as crisp)
1 medium sized yellow onion, sliced
Olive Oil
Italian Seasoning
Salt and Pepper to taste

Directions:
1. Cook the Bowties, according to directions on box and your preference. I like al-dente
2. Put your sausage links in a large skillet with 1-2 cups of water. Boil them until just about done.
3. Remove from pan and let rest for about 15 minutes.
4. Cut sausage into 1/2" slices
5. Remove water from skillet and heat up about 2 tbsp of oil.
6. Add sausage and cook until browned and well done
7. Once sausauge is well done, add the peppers and onions and stirfry until veggies are crisp.
8. Drain your pasta and return to pot.
9. Add enough olive oil to coat the pasta and enough Italian seasoning, salt and pepper to your liking.

Mix it up
- Use minced garlic in this recipe with broccoli and shrimp
- Lemon herb Grilled chicken and broccoli is another

I hope you enjoy this recipe as much as I have.

My week so far

Didn't feel like making bags so I made a few of these on Monday...(fyi.. they are pocket tissue holders)

Loved these when I saw them. I found the tutorial online here and I made some...

And I started a bedspread for my daughter today. I found this fabric called "Running 8th's" at Joann Fabrics a few weeks ago. I also found a pattern for pillows that I liked so I took the pillow pattern and just started making blocks. I am hoping to have the blocks sewn together tonight and back it with some fleece sometime this weekend. I am still debating what color I should buy the fleece in.

Ah..2 more days... I am enjoying my time off... I love being home with the cats. I love them but they are super lazy and have a strange way of convincing me to take an afternoon nap before my daughter comes home. I hope to ward off the lazy kitty spell and to get some more stuff made up.. I have a show on Saturday!

What is this??

Look closely @ the picture and think about what it is made out of. Think outside the "BOX".

A coworker of mine just came back from a 7 day cruise on the new Independence ship by Royal Caribean. Let's just say she enjoyed in very much, especially considering the weather we've had in the last week or so. While she was out exploring and enjoying this wonderful, new ship, she came across this mosiac and was amazed and instantly thought of me. You are probably wondering why she would think of me, but can you believe this whole mosiac is made from spools of thread??? Thosands of spools of different color tread make up this mosaic that was about 2 stories tall. Now I kind of want to go on this ship to see this art in person. Who would think to use tons of thread to create something like this? This kind of inspires me to start thinking "Outside the box" again in creating interesting pieces.. oh the wheels are slowly turning in the brain....

A New You for 2009

I recieved an email today and normally just delete, but I found this one to be a keeper. This list is 40 things that you should do to be better in 2009. I have already started my Special K Challenge and it's going fine (for now). I've even downloaded my spiritual podcasts so I can be encouraged during my hectic work hours.

We all want to live better, eat better and be a better person all around and this year would be a wonderful year to start. Let's start this year like Obama... with change.

40 Tips For A Better Life - 2009
1. Take a 10-30 minute walk every day. And while you walk, smile. It is the ultimate anti-depressant.
2. Sit in silence for at least 10 minutes each day.
3. Buy a DVR and tape your late night shows and get more sleep.
4. When you wake up in the morning complete the following statement, 'My purpose is to __________ today.'
5. Live with the 3 E's -- Energy, Enthusiasm, and Empathy..
6. Play more games and read more books than you did in 2008.
7. Make time to practice meditation and prayer. They provide us with daily fuel for our busy lives.
8. Spend time with people over the age of 70 and under the age of 6.
9. Dream more while you are awake.
10. Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and eat less food that is manufactured IN plants.
11. Drink green tea and plenty of water. Eat blueberries, wild Alaskan salmon, broccoli, almonds, & walnuts.
12. Try to make at least three people smile each day.
13. Clear clutter from your house, your car, your desk, and let new and flowing energy into your life.
14. Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, or issues of the past, negative thoughts, or things you cannot control. Instead, invest your energy in the positive present moment.
15. Realize that life is a school and you are here to learn. Problems are simply part of the curriculum that appear and fade away like algebra class, but the lessons you learn will last a lifetime.
16. Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a college kid with a maxed out charge card.
17.. Smile and laugh more. It will keep the negative blues away.
18. Life isn't fair, but it's still good.
19. Life is too short to waste time hating anyone.
20. Don't take yourself so seriously. No one else does.
21. You don't have to win every argument. Agree to disagree.
22. Make peace with your past so it won't spoil the present.
23. Don't compare your life to others. You have no idea what their journey is all about.
24. No one is in charge of your happiness except you.
25. Frame every so-called disaster with these words: 'In five years, will this matter?'
26. Forgive everyone for everything.
27. What other people think of you is none of your business.
28. However good or bad a situation is, it will change.
29. Your job won't take care of you when you are sick. Your friends will. Stay in touch.
30.. Get rid of anything that isn't useful, beautiful, or joyful.
31. Envy is a waste of time. You already have all you need.
32. The best is yet to come.
33. No matter how you feel, get up, dress up, and show up.
34. Do the right thing!
35. Call your family often. (Or e-mail them to death!)
36. Each night before you go to bed, complete the following statements: I am thankful for __________. Today I accomplished _________.
37. Remember that you are too blessed to be stressed.
38. Enjoy the ride. Remember this is not Disney World and you certainly don't want a fast pass. You only have one ride through life, so make the most of it and enjoy the ride.
39. Share this with those you care about.. I just did. May your troubles be less, May your blessings be more, May nothing but happiness come through your door!
40. Buy a Myla's Bag!

Ok, so 40 really wasn't there, but you know I had to add it =)

Hey, Hey, Hey, It's Fat Albert!!

Talk about a blast from the past! I was in Joann's doing my usually searching for unusual fabrics when I came across a familiar face. I pulled out the fabric and was surprised to see that it was the Fat Albert characters. "Whoa", I said out loud, the woman next to me gave me an odd look. I got a bit excited, but soon was disappointed. The fabric was a poly blend, which means, it can't really be made into a bag. I kind of reminded me of something I would make a man's shirt out of or maybe some PJ pants. I quickly put the fabric back and continued to walk around the store. As I walked for a few minutes more (actually about 45 minutes) I decided to just get it anyway.

As I stood in line for the cutting counter, I sat and thought of what I could make with this fabric. If it were a cotton print, I could have easily made it into a drawstring back pack, but it's not. I thought of cutting it apart and making appliques out of the fabric, but what would I apply this applique to?? Still working on that. I was thinking of making up some t-shirts, maybe some totes.
